Maren’s Therapeutic Approach

In therapy work with clients, I describe myself as having a three pronged approach. Most clients do well with some combination of the three, depending on their needs.

First and foremost, I want to provide clients with a safe space where they are free to be who and where they truly are. This sets the stage for developing trust, and healing to occur.

Second, I offer clients “here and now” skills and tools they will be able to utilize outside the therapy session and keep forever. These include such things as mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal skills; values work; and breathing techniques. This can be thought of as a band-aid, or wound management. While this is important and necessary at times, people often need more….

Third, I use therapy modalities such as IFS (Internal Family Systems) and ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy), and hypnosis to work on a deeper level that begins to heal emotional wounds. This helps us move beyond talk therapy into a more holistic approach, truly addressing a client’s mind, body, and spirit.

I am an LGBTQIA2S+ affirming therapist, and I welcome and support people regardless of sexual orientation or expression, gender, and lifestyle.

I want to acknowledge that as a human being on this planet, I am racist. I am committed to a lifelong examination of my own racism and know I can always do and be better.
